Saint-Omer in Pas de Calais, is an old trading town dating back to the Merovingians. At the beginning of the 12th century, the new Aa was built leading to the sea and small canals flowing into it. From the 12th to the 13th century the textile industry flourished there. I visited it in 1998 and made this pastel where we see one of the canals lined with these corbelled houses.
